The End of the Mayan Calen­dar is sche­du­led for Decem­ber 21, 2012 (give or take a year). The pos­si­bi­li­ties of what this “end” might mean is an inc­rea­singly hot topic on the Inter­net, in con­fe­ren­ces, prin­ted artic­les, and in dis­cus­sions all over the globe. This is because it just might be an inc­re­dibly impor­tant moment in his­tory — e.g., the end of his­tory!
the Mayan Calen­dar is not your ave­rage, run-​​of-​​the-​​mill calen­dar. It is, among other things, repu­ted to be the most accu­rate in the world. This is due in part to the fact it is also a rela­ti­vely com­pli­ca­ted calen­dar, using cyc­les of 13 and 20 (weird!), rela­ting to the cyc­les of other pla­nets (e.g. Venus), and in gene­ral incor­po­ra­ting some 22 (at last count) dif­fe­rent sub-​​calendars, such that every con­tin­gency can be accoun­ted for.

The Mayans did not ela­bo­rate in great detail about what would hap­pen in 2012 A.D., just that their calen­dar would end. Howe­ver, there has been no end (par­don the pun) to the pos­si­bi­li­ties being fore­cast by modern day inter­pre­tors of what the Mayans might have meant. These pos­si­bi­li­ties inc­lude 2012 A.D. as a time for:

1) major chan­ges in human DNA (as in Indigo Chil­dren),
2) an enor­mous leap in Cons­cious­ness,
3) dimen­sio­nal shifts (as in Hyper­di­men­sio­nal Phy­sics and/​or Supers­trings),
4) the ces­sa­tion of linear Time,
5) an evo­lu­tio­nary human pin­nacle,
6) a huge surge and mul­ti­ple breakth­roughs in tech­no­logy,
7) the end of Money [Shir­ley, you jest!],
mas­sive gene­tic muta­tions [the good news!],
9) a serious, altogether-​​too-​​close encoun­ter with a Near-​​Earth Objects mem­ber,
10) and a cos­mic align­ment of our solar sys­tem with the plane of our Galaxy, the Milky Way. The lat­ter repre­sents the end of a 25,920 year cycle — a cycle based on the Pre­ces­sion of the Equinoxes).

<www.levity.com/eschaton/f…usion.html> goes so far as to sug­gest that as of Decem­ber 21, 2012 AD, the pos­si­bi­li­ties inc­lude an encoun­ter with a trans-​​dimensional object such as a “Hypers­pa­tial Breakth­rough, Pla­ne­te­si­mal Impact, Alien Con­tact,” et al. The effects, accor­ding to <www​.2012​.com​.au/​u​n​l​i​m​i​t​e​d​.​h​tml> will inc­lude everything from intense dreams to DNA repro­gram­ming from 2 strands back to 12 strand DNA, as well as the emer­gence of grea­ter intui­tive and hea­ling abi­li­ties, chil­dren born with tele­pathic abi­li­ties, and that “all pla­gues of the 90’s, inc­lu­ding AIDS, will be gone.”
<www​.siloam​.net/​j​e​n​k​i​n​s​/​a​m​b​i​l​a​c​.​h​tml> has con­nec­ted the time with the alle­ged Resu­rrec­tion of Osi­ris at The Great Pyra­mids of Giza in Egypt. The author, Ruth Allen, <www​.siloam​.net>noted, “The zenith meri­dian at Giza runs through Jupi­ter at the Hya­des in Tau­rus. The metaphor for this align­ment is that the king­dom (Jupi­ter) will be res­to­red to Egypt (Tau­rus) at that pre­cise moment. Thus, Osi­ris, the Bull of Egypt, will return from the dead at 22:18:13 on Decem­ber 21, 2012. If these cal­cu­la­tions can be bac­ked up, they will have ful­fi­lled the ancient prophecy. It will also prove that the Hall of Records is the stars. Remem­ber one sim­ple fact. Everything we are and everything we can know, is within the stars. That was the fun­da­men­tal synop­tic mea­ning of the Giza complex.”

This web­site has taken ideas from alter­na­tive scien­tists, Egyp­to­lo­gists, prophets, chan­ne­lings, divi­na­tory sys­tems, sha­ma­nic psycho­nauts, psycho­nuts, artists, mys­tics, mytho­logy, Mesoa­me­ri­can research, the so-​​called “Bible Code”, and the con­cept of a com­plex frac­tal Time, where an ancient enco­ding in the Chi­nese I Ching pre­dicts a 2012 ter­mi­na­tion point. The mathe­ma­ti­cal wild­ness of the lat­ter, the so-​​called Time­Wave, is par­ti­cu­larly intriguing!

<www​.2012​.com​.au/​u​n​l​i​m​i​t​e​d​.​h​tml> notes that the Mayan “fifth world finished in 1987” [What is ter­med “the Har­mo­nic Con­ver­gence”], but that the “sixth world” does not start until 2012. This lea­ves ever­yone currently “bet­ween worlds”, aka the “Apo­calypse”, or “revea­ling”. The time is appa­rently upon ever­yone to work through their “stuff”, both indi­vi­dually and collec­ti­vely. They note, for exam­ple, that “The Mayan sixth world is actually blank. This means it is up to us, as co-​​creators, to start crea­ting the new world and civi­li­za­tion we want now.” [Why not get on this right after lunch, okay?]

<levity​.com/​e​s​c​h​a​t​o​n​/​W​h​y​2​0​1​2​.​h​tml> pro­vi­des an exce­llent article on “The How and Why of the Mayan End Date in 2012 A.D.” Writ­ten by John Major Jen­kins (1994), the article makes seve­ral note­worthy obser­va­tions, inc­lu­ding:
“Scho­lars have known for deca­des that the 13-​​baktun cycle of the Mayan ‘Long Count’ sys­tem of time­kee­ping was set to end pre­ci­sely on a win­ter sols­tice, and that this sys­tem was put in place some 2300 years ago. This ama­zing fact — that ancient Mesoa­me­ri­can sky­watchers were able to pin­point a win­ter sols­tice far off into the future — has not been dealt with by Maya­nists. And why did they choose the year 2012? One imme­dia­tely gets the impres­sion that there is a very strange mys­tery to be con­fron­ted here.”

“The point of inte­rest for these early astro­no­mers seems to have been the pro­jec­ted end date in 2012 A.D., rather than the begin­ning date in 3114 B.C. Having deter­mi­ned the end date in 2012… and calling it 13.0.0.0.0, they thus proc­lai­med them­sel­ves to be living in the 6th bak­tun of the Great Cycle. The later Maya cer­tainly attri­bu­ted much mytho­lo­gi­cal sig­ni­fi­cance to the begin­ning date, rela­ting it to the birth of their dei­ties, but it now seems cer­tain that the pla­ce­ment of the Long Count hin­ges upon its cal­cu­la­ted end point.” [empha­sis added]

“In the book he co-​​authored with his brother Den­nis [Invi­si­ble Lands­cape, Sea­bury Press 1975 and Har­per San Fran­cisco, 1993], Terence [McKenna] sug­gests that the posi­tion of win­ter sols­tice sun within 3 degrees of the Galac­tic Cen­ter in the year 2012 A.D. (a ‘once-​​in-​​a-​​precessional-​​cycle’ event) may pro­vide the escha­to­lo­gi­cal end point for his theory of time known as Time­Wave Zero. His end date was cho­sen for his­to­ri­cal rea­sons and was, appa­rently, only later dis­co­ve­red to corres­pond with the Mayan end date.”

For the astro­no­mers, <eclipse​.span​.ch/​t​r​a​n​s​i​t​.​htm> briefly desc­ri­bes Mer­cury and Venus tran­sits. A tran­sit, in this con­nec­tion, is, “When Mer­cury or Venus pas­ses in front of the Sun’s disk as seen from Earth.” “Mer­cury tran­sits hap­pen about 12 times in a cen­tury.” The next ones are: May 7, 2003 . Novem­ber 8, 2006.” This is, sup­po­sedly, no big deal, but tran­sits of Venus — the pla­net about which the Mayans were par­ti­cu­larly inte­res­ted — are “a very rare sight, about 12 times per millen­nium!” The last one was in the 19th cen­tury, as there were none in the 20th cen­tury. Further­more, the next one’s coming soon: June 8, 2004 , then June 6, 2012 (They come in pairs, eight years apart.) Seve­ral scho­lars have sug­ges­ted that the 2012 tran­sit of Venus is all part of the 2012 A.D. K-​​Mart Blue Light Spe­cial — the ulti­mate “close-​​out” for bar­gain shoppers.

For the Astro­lo­gers — we have to be fair when it comes to giving equal time bet­ween the Astro­no­mers and Astro­lo­gers! — 12-​​22-​​2012 is what might be called an inte­res­ting “natal chart”. Of par­ti­cu­lar note is the for­ma­tion of a “Yod” (the “fin­ger of des­tiny”, as high­ligh­ted in the figure). A Pluto-​​Saturn sex­tile (the “hea­vies” in Astro­logy) point the fin­ger, so to speak, at Jup
iter (the zodia­cal “Santa Claus”). One eso­te­ric branch of astro­logy claims that Jupi­ter is always high­ligh­ted at death of an indi­vi­dual (i.e. it’s the “good news”). One can only won­der if the same might also apply as a species-​​wide event. Keep in mind that the Sabian Sym­bols for Pluto and Saturn in this case are: “An Angel Carr­ying a Harp” and “A Den­tist at Work.” You might want to stay tuned on this one!

And the pos­si­bi­li­ties con­ti­nue — or as some might observe — run ram­pant. Perhaps the fun­niest aspect comes from some entre­pre­neurs at “radix”, where in “a bid for the End-​​of-​​the-​​Worldcon”, they have advo­ca­ted Chichén Itzá as the place to be on Decem­ber 21, 2012. Ever­yone is invi­ted to, “spend your last World­con of this exis­tence with us!” They go on to desc­ribe their accom­mo­da­tions: “Our three hotels, the Hacienda Chichén, the Maya­land, and Villas Arqueo­lo­gi­cas are close together and con­ve­nient to Chichén Itzá‘s own air­port. Swim­ming is avai­la­ble in any of the nearby ceno­tes.” [Visa and Mas­terCharge are, pre­su­mably, still being accep­ted!] Then there’s the “mas­que­rade venue with ade­quate raked sea­ting! Plus we’ll be put­ting major pro­gram­ming in the Ball Court to avoid the expense of sound ampli­fi­ca­tion.” [Why exactly should we worry about expense?] Finally, they note that, “The cen­ter of science pro­gram­ming will be the obser­va­tory. Celes­tial rea­dings will be taken throughout the con­ven­tion to ensure that clo­sing cere­mo­nies exactly coin­cide with the end of time.

With a nota­ble reduc­tion in a sense of humor <mars2012​.ber​ke​ley​.edu> desc­ri­bes the “Mars by 2012” pro­ject, “a NASA-​​sponsored course offe­red through the Earth and Pla­ne­tary Science Depart­ment (EPS 98/​198). The course allows under­gra­dua­tes to par­ti­ci­pate in ongoing research pro­jects rela­ted to the pro­blems and cha­llen­ges humans will face in a man­ned mis­sion to Mars.” The web­site goes on to head­line, “The Synergy Pro­ject [uni­ting] uni­ver­si­ties, indus­tries, NASA [in] brin­ging humans to Mars.”

Is there, perhaps, a sus­pi­cion at Ber­ke­ley that being on Mars in 2012 A.D. might be highly pre­fe­ra­ble to being on Earth at that time?

Finally, Drun­valo Melchi­ze­dek <www​.great​dreams​.com/​d​r​u​n​.​htm>, details some of the metaphy­si­cal aspects of the event, but also inc­lu­des how one might pre­pare for such an event. This is pre­sen­ted in slightly grea­ter detail on the sup­po­si­tion that one always needs to close with an upbeat ending. This is the same sort of thin­king that Tom Rob­bins in his book, Jit­ter­bug Per­fume, inc­lu­ded, when he noted that the sign over the door­way to Hell read, “Ligh­ten Up.”

An essen­tial requi­re­ment is “drop­ping the old cons­cious­ness of Good and Evil, which we must do in order to enter the new higher cons­cious­ness. The old cons­cious­ness sees itself as being inside a body and everything and ever­yone else as outside of itself. This way of seeing is [the way of Illu­sions]. The Hin­dus call it ‘Maya’.

“Her­mes of Ancient Greece once said, ‘As above, so below’. This quote has become famous, and is just now being pro­ven by science. The mac­ro­cosm and the mic­ro­cosm reflect each other. In the same way, another quote is impor­tant. ‘As within, so without.’ The inside and the outside are con­nec­ted. It is here, where the impor­tant work will be lived. To rea­lize that what hap­pens on the inside reflects to the outside — and the other way around. This rela­tionship is effec­ted by our fee­lings. Fear crea­tes a con­trac­ted state of being. Love crea­tes an expan­ded state of being. When we are in fear and con­trac­ted, the outer world con­trols our inner world. When we are in love and expan­ded, the inner world con­trols our outer world.”

“So the key to inter­di­men­sio­nal sur­vi­val is to remain posi­tive and in love with life even when the outer world may seem hope­less. Know the per­fec­tion of Nature. At the same time and equally impor­tant, know and see that Great Spirit/​Nature is alive and cons­cious of you. Deve­lop com­mu­ni­ca­tion within your­self with God. An exam­ple of indi­ge­nous unders­tan­ding of this is that of the Kahu­nas in Hawaii: Their belief in nature as alive and conscious.

“The final key is to bring this ‘con­nec­tion’ with Nature into your­self. Let your inner child self emerge and ‘play’ with Life.
